4. TIPS FOR GOING TO COLLEGE!!

Hello friends!! Yes, I know, it's been a while...again.  I promise I will get better at this haha! I hope you are all doing well, and staying happy, safe, and healthy. :)  A little life update for y'all, I am back in my hometown for a week before I move for school.  I will always remember the summer I spent with my grandparents, and I already miss them so much.  But I am glad to be home, and have loved finally spending some time with my family.  Here are some of my favorite quotes I found this week :)

I have loved looking at these quotes throughout my week, they have really helped me remember to not be too hard on myself, and to never give up on my goals and dreams.  I think I'll start including a quote or two in each post, I think it's kind of fun!

Okay, anyways!!  Let's get to what you're here for!!

TIPS FOR GOING TO COLLEGE:

As someone who is preparing to go to college, I didn't really have a lot of info on this subject, sooo I did what any other reasonable person would do, and went to Instagram.  I asked my friends and followers who were currently going to school, or had gone to school, to tell me their best tips and tricks, and here they are.  This information is seriously so so helpful, so enjoy!

I had so many responses, it's taken me a while to sort through all the amazing tips!  I just quickly want to thank everyone who provided these tips and information, it truly means so much to me :) <3

DORM STUFF:

  • Coordinate with your roommates before moving in about who is bringing different things and appliances. *This could include a griddle, vacuum, pots and pans, toaster, etc.*
  • Depending on where you're living, space could be very limited! Don't bring your whole room!
  • Bring cleaning supplies (especially with the pandemic going on!)
  • Don't pack all of your sweaters and coats when you're going up in the fall.  You're most likely going to be visiting home before it gets too cold, so you can always grab them later.
  • Bring a strip plug / power outlet
  • Get bed risers! They are super cheap, and make for even more storage room under your bed
  • Make sure your space is somewhere you love to be (**THIS IS SO IMPORTANT!!**)
  • Don't bring things you wouldn't normally use!  The chances that you will start using something that you don't normally use on a daily basis, is just about zero lol.  If you don't need it, leave it at home!!
SCHOOL STUFF:
  • Always talk to your professors face to face as soon as you can!  It helps build trust and helps your teachers recognize you in a big class.
  • NEVER buy your textbooks from the bookstore!!! They are so so expensive! Look for them on Facebook market place, Amazon, or Ebay.
  • Don't procrastinate.  Get yourself into a good habit of getting your homework done and not putting it off until the last minute.  You will feel so much better, and have so much more free time in your day!
  • Sit in the front of your lectures
  • Ask questions
  • DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! Remember that you're there to go to school, don't blow it! ;)
  • Take at least one class that you really love and are interested in
  • Skim your textbooks before class
  • Manage your time! (**ALSO SO IMPORTANT**)
SOCIAL LIFE:
  • Go out and do things, and talk to new people!! There are so many new faces and friends for you to meet and interact with, don't take it for granted
  • Go to school activities and get your school spirit on!
  • Go with an open mind and heart
  • If you are wanting school gear and don't mind doing a little thrift shopping, there are so many t-shirts, hoodies, and other things at DI / thrift shops near schools!
  • Move out with a friend, or make sure you know at least one person who is going to the same school you are.
HEALTH / MISC:
  • Call your mom at least every other day
  • Make your bed every morning, it helps keep you motivated
  • Get organized! A clean space is a happy space!
  • Get a reusable water bottle, and stay hydrated!!
  • Make sure you're getting plenty of exercise, and taking care of your body
That's all I have for now friends!! If you've made it this far, congratulations and THANK YOU!!  If there are any tips I missed that you would like to share, please feel free to add them in the comments!

Thank you again to all the wonderful people who gave me such amazing responses, it truly means so much :))

xoxo,
Leah Marie
